About Me
Hi, I’m Devyn, the educator and creator behind The STEM Loft. With over five years of classroom experience teaching biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering design, and more than a decade as a private STEM tutor, I’ve dedicated my career to making science both engaging and accessible.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and have earned certifications in PLTW Engineering Essentials and Principles of Engineering, as well as professional development in instructional design, foundations for active learning in STEM courses, and learning experience design. My teaching journey has led me from guiding students through fetal pig dissections to organizing a STEM Day event where high school students ran hands-on demos for younger learners. These shining moments remind me that STEM education is most powerful when it sparks curiosity and builds confidence.
My Approach to Teaching & Writing
I believe students learn best through hands-on, inquiry-based, and project-driven experiences. That philosophy shapes both my classroom instruction and the curriculum resources I create. My work is:
- Standards-aligned (TEKS & NGSS)
- Student-centered and differentiated
- Designed to connect STEM concepts to real-world applications
On this site, you’ll find:
- Blog posts where I share strategies on STEM pedagogy, instructional design, and classroom-tested activities.
- Writing samples including lesson plans, case studies, and instructional design artifacts.
- A portfolio showcasing my curriculum writing projects, assessments, and digital course development.
Beyond the Classroom
Outside of curriculum writing and teaching, I enjoy crafting, cooking, and gardening. I love experimenting with new recipes, creating hands-on projects, and growing fresh herbs and vegetables. These hobbies not only give me a creative outlet but also often inspire new ideas for lessons and resources, blending everyday experiences with STEM concepts in engaging and practical ways.
